Cool Power Products actively drives micro-generation and energy management research and has established an EMMA and micro-generation development site with Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT).
Originally sited in Dundalk, the EMMA Test Rig has now been expanded and relocated to the County Louth Dog Pound on the main Dublin-Dundalk road.
The EMMA Test Rig has a 1.65 kWp Cool Power solar PV array running alongside a 2.5 kW Proven wind turbine. Both are providing power for the Dog Pound. All surplus output is being directed by an EMMA controller to a Glen Dimplex electric storage heater that has been specifically designed for use with EMMA.
The initial objective of the EMMA Test Rig is to enable DKIT to accurately monitor the performance of the Beta Test EMMA. After this they will be testing a number of new methods for using EMMA technology to stabilise the grid.
This research project is enabling us to develop and test a range of new smart load management devices that incorporate EMMA technology.
