Householders and businesses that install renewable energy micro-generators are now able to sell any surplus electricity generated back to the national grid for a guaranteed price of 19 cent per kilowatt hour.
This “feed-in tariff” (also known as REFIT, the Renewable Energy Feed-In Tariff or export price) will be available for up to 4000 micro-generation units for a period of three years, starting in 2009. Eligible installations include small scale wind, solar PV, hydro and combined heat and power. This means you can now use micro-generators to generate electricity for yourself and also be paid for any surplus energy that you export to the national grid.
