Tesco and CGE Cool Power celebrate 1000 kg of CO2 saved at Tramore's Eco Store.
More than 650 students from six primary and secondary schools in Tramore entered the competition organised by Tesco to celebrate 1,000kg of CO2 saved by CGE Cool Power's Photovoltaic solar panels at Tramore's Eco Store. Tesco and CGE Cool Power presented the eco awards to the winning students.
Younger Students were asked to colour in CGE Cool Power's logo, while older students designed their own poster. All the art work has been displayed in Tesco's Eco Store in Tramore, for the past few weeks.

Molly May Hayes from Fenor National School was the winner in the Junior to Senior infants category. Aodán Fullam and Ellen Foran, from Gaelscoil, were the winners in the category for First to Third class students. The winners for the Fourth to Sixth class category were: Cian Swanson and Aoife O'Moore, from Holy Cross, and Hazel Brophy and Adam Walsh, from Glór Na Mára.

Stella Maris Secondary School students Amy Fleming and Lauren O'Connor, were the winners in Fourth to Sixth year category and First to Third year category, respectively.

1000 kg of CO2 would take up the same space as a fridge standing more than one and a half times the height of the Eiffel Tower, or enough volume to fill two 3-bed semi-detached houses.
On average, one mature tree absorbs 3 kg of CO2 in a year. This means that, even though Tesco's system has only been running for only four months, the contribution to CO2 reduction is already the equivalent to having planted 16 trees 20 years ago.
Located in Tramore, Co. Waterford, Tesco's Eco Store is the first supermarket in the country designed to the internationally recognized 'Passiv Haus' standard and it will use 45% less energy than a store of a similar size, combining CGE Cool Power's solar electricity system with other energy saving design features.
The outlet in Tramore is the first of a number of Eco Stores planned by Tesco where the company will evaluate a range of designs and technologies aimed at reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
