Cool Power Ltd. (CPL) was formed in 2005 to serve as a vehicle for holding the consents, licenses and permissions required at that time in Ireland to obtain connection agreements for micro-generators. CPL participated in the drafting of the Irish conditions incorporated in EN50438 standards for micro-generator connections. CPL was the first company to manufacture EN50438 (Irish standards) compliant grid-connected inverters and to install and operate them. The first of these was installed in 2006. CPL was also the first company to procure, install and operate a smart meter in Ireland. This smart meter was also installed in 2006. It has operated continuously since then. CPL is the largest owner and operator of PV systems in Ireland.
Cool Power Products Ltd. (CPP) was formed in 2007 by the owners of CPL to serve as a vehicle for selling and installing grid-connected micro-generators in Ireland. It had an exclusive agency for the only EN50438 (Irish standards) grid-connected inverters available at that time and went on to become the largest PV installer in Ireland. CPP developed its EMMA range of controllers to address the imbalance between micro-generator output and household load in 2007. These units divert surplus power to devices with storage capacity within the household (hot water cylinders, storage heaters, swimming pools etc.,) when micro-generator output would otherwise exceed household load. Since then CPP’s EMMA units have been installed throughout Ireland and the UK in steadily increasing numbers. A small number of units have been installed in France and Sweden.
Over the years CPP developed a unique expertise in the use of advanced technology for the control of energy input to hot water cylinders. It also gained a comprehensive and intimate understanding of the use of hot water in a very wide range of house-types (from small apartments to large farms). CPP brought all of this expertise and knowledge together in 2010 when it launched its Zesto Nero (Greek for hot water) range of products.
